Which shoes go with which style of jeans?

Even though jeans may be one of the easiest pieces to wear in your wardrobe, the choice of shoes can completely change their look. So, how do you find the right combination?

Rather than following strict rules, at Oraije, we like to look at the jean's line, its shade, its length, and its volume. Because a shoe does more than just complete an outfit: it also contributes to its balance.

Straight-leg jeans: the cut that goes with almost everything

With their regular leg, straight-leg jeans are undoubtedly one of the easiest cuts to style. For a casual look, dare to wear colorful sneakers or opt for boots that will add a more urban touch, especially with light blue or faded jeans.

Dark blue denim or gray jeans lend themselves to more elegant combinations: patent loafers or derbies allow for a dressier silhouette. Do not hesitate to play with the length of the jeans to adjust the desired effect.

And for a glamorous look, why not pair suede ankle boots with leopard-print jeans or burgundy corduroy pants?

Slim-fit jeans: choose a shoe that follows the line of the leg

Thanks to their close-fitting cut, slim-fit jeans are easy to wear with ankle boots, and can even be tucked into high boots when the cut is sufficiently fitted.

For a relaxed look, sneakers remain a sure bet, while ballet flats and loafers bring a more bohemian touch. Pumps and heeled sandals are better suited for a formal or dressy outfit.

Regarding colors, black or chocolate slim-fit jeans work particularly well with dark shoes. Light blue denim, on the other hand, easily goes with shoes in natural tones, such as taupe or beige.

With pants that are already very tight, a slim shoe helps maintain a light silhouette. But a platform sole can also create an interesting contrast: it all depends on the effect you are looking for.

Flare and bootcut jeans: let the shoe take its place

With their flared bottoms, flare and bootcut jeans require a little more attention: the shoe must find its place under the leg opening without the pants dragging on the ground.

Heeled ankle boots and boots are particularly interesting with these cuts: they follow their line and help maintain a nice proportion between the leg and the bottom of the pants.

This is also the type of denim with which more original shades naturally find their place. Pink jeans, for example, can be paired with taupe ankle boots or chocolate loafers.

But nothing stops you from wearing a flare with sneakers. A slightly thick sole is often enough to maintain a nice drape, while giving the jeans a more casual look.

The tip from Jessica, Oraije collection director:

"Don't hesitate to create contrast between your jeans and your shoes. Ripped jeans can absolutely be paired with pumps for a rock edge, while an embroidered model can be modernized with a pair of derbies. It is often this mismatch that gives an outfit character."

Wide-leg and palazzo jeans: play with proportions

Wide-leg jeans go well with shoes that have enough presence to balance their volume. With this in mind, you can opt for pieces that have character: chunky sneakers, patent Mary Janes, or leather ankle boots.

The details of the jeans can also guide the choice of shoes. Rhinestone pants or those adorned with eyelet embroidery already have a strong visual presence: simpler shoes then allow the cut and details to speak for themselves.

Cropped or 7/8 jeans: show off the ankle

When jeans reveal the ankle, the shoe naturally becomes more visible... it's the perfect opportunity to play with details!

Low-top tennis shoes, ballet flats, platform sandals, or Mary Janes work particularly well. In winter, a patent ankle boot that hits at the ankle helps maintain a balanced silhouette.

What shoes to wear with jeans if you are petite? There are no shoes reserved for petite silhouettes. However, a small heel or a pair that leaves the top of the foot exposed can help visually lengthen the leg.

Balloon or barrel jeans: create a controlled contrast

With their rounded volume at the legs, balloon and barrel jeans bring real personality to an outfit. To accompany their cut, you can choose a structured shoe: thick-soled loafers, leopard-print ankle boots, or colorful sneakers.

Here too, contrast works very well: a pair of strapped ballet flats can, for example, lighten the ensemble and bring a preppy touch to the pants' volume.

There is therefore not one single right combination: the shoe can either extend the character of the jeans or create a nice counterpoint.

The right reflex: try the jeans with the shoes you really wear

A cut can seem perfect on a hanger and drape very differently depending on the shoes it is worn with. This is particularly true for flare, bootcut, and wide-leg cuts.

At Oraije, we test the proportions and combinations of our models to check their drape. But your wardrobe remains the best testing ground: when you try on jeans, remember to wear them with the shoes you actually use.

Walk, sit down, look at the overall effect, and ask yourself if you feel good. Because the right combination is not necessarily the one you see everywhere: it is the one that matches your style and your daily life.

At Oraije, we design our jeans so they can fit into your wardrobe. Sneakers on Monday, loafers on Tuesday, ankle boots on the weekend: it's up to you to bring each cut to life according to your desires.

"The right shoe is the one that makes you love your jeans even more."
