The history of jeans

As jeanners, we had to give you a little recap on the history of denim so that you can immerse yourself in its history and understand why we are in love with this fabric.

Today, jeans are a fashion staple, we cannot imagine a wardrobe without this basic that is jeans but they have not always been worn for their style on the contrary.

Its history begins in the 19th century in the United States, when a merchant, Levi Strauss, and a tailor, Jacob Davis, invented durable pants for workers. These pants are made of "denim" canvas, a very robust, often blue, fabric, born in the city of Nîmes in France. To make them even more durable, metal rivets are added to the pockets: blue jeans are born.

Originally, these jeans were worn by miners, cowboys and workers, but in the 1950s young people adopted them as a symbol of rebellion, notably thanks to icons like Marilyn Monroe and James Dean.

In the 70s and 80s, jeans made their way into everyone's wardrobe, available in different cuts, colors, and styles to suit everyone's personality. Far from being just workwear, they continue to evolve with the latest trends.

Today the whole world wears jeans: children, teenagers, men, women... It's a universal basic, practical, comfortable and stylish and we have to say that at Oraije it's really not something we dislike!

The cuts

Slim fit

Slim jeans are jeans with a close-fitting cut, distinguished by their sleek and modern style. They were born in the 50s with the icons of that era with their rebellious and sexy look. Slim jeans have become a staple that spans the ages.

Straight cut

Straight-leg jeans are one of the most timeless denim styles. Originating with Levi Strauss's very first workman's jeans, straight-leg jeans have since become a staple in wardrobes around the world, becoming the essential they are today.

Momfit cut

These high-waisted jeans with a straight cut that's slightly loose at the hips, owe their name to the style worn by moms in the 90s. This cut is synonymous with comfort and vintage.

Flare cut

Straight out of the 60s and 70s, where it was a symbol of hippie and bohemian style, the flare cut is a cut that fits the hips and thighs and flares out from the knees. This cut is greatly appreciated for its structuring effect on the silhouette.

Wide cut

Wide-leg jeans are pants with a very wide leg. They are loose and flowing from the hips to create a natural, structured fit. Wide-leg jeans are a must-have for modern, urban, and elegant looks.

Palazzo cut

The palazzo cut is a high-waisted cut with very wide legs, it has a straight and fluid fall from top to bottom. After fading in favor of close-fitting cuts like slim-fit, the palazzo is making a comeback thanks to its ability to enhance all silhouettes.
